Want us to make your DVD?

So you are putting on a show and you want it recorded on DVDs.  We can help.  And our turn-key process makes it easy for you.

Scheduling dates and performances

Scheduling is a big deal.  It's no coincidence that The Nutcracker is in December, and dance recitals happen in late spring.  As early as possible, call or email me dates and times.  Also let me know when your dress rehearsals are scheduled.

Pricing and marketing

Is this a fundraiser, or do you just want to make DVDs available for the participants?  How many people are in the show?  How many DVDs do you think you can sell?  All of this factors in to the price.  Every situation is different and so is the pricing strategy.

If you hope to raise money by selling DVDs, it is in your interest to promote DVD sales.  We are pretty good at hanging signs all over the place alerting attendees and participants that we are selling DVDs for you.  But it really helps if you make announcements, promote it in your newsletters and program, etc.

Pre-Production

This is the process of planning the shoot.  It includes a consultation with you to find out what you want your DVD to look like.  And I'll want to talk to the director, lighting designer, sound technician, etc. to make sure we have all the details covered.  I will never walk into a performance and fire up my cameras without knowing what to expect.  This is a critical point.

DVD orders and payment

Have you thought about how you will take orders, handle payments and sales tax?  Don't worry, we have.

We provide order forms, and we are all set up to handle all kinds of payments-- from cash and checks to credit cards.  We handle all sales taxes.  And we have a business license.  This is a completely legitimate, "G-rated", tax-paying business, based in the City of Johns Creek, GA.

We accept checks and cash and will make change.  We have our own credit/debit card merchant account (not PayPal).  We also have a wireless credit/debit card terminal that will work virtually anywhere.  We will swipe the credit or debit card, and provide a printed receipt of the transaction instantly.

Your fundraising proceeds will be paid by check at pre-determined intervals.  We collect full payment at the time orders are placed.

Shooting the production

I do all of the camerawork myself.  I will use a minimum of two cameras, and more can be made available if needed-- there may be additional cost.  Great care will be taken not to cause any distraction for the audience, performers or other participants.

I will need to shoot in a location that has an unobstructed view of the performance area, without interference from the audience.  This can be scoped out during pre-production.

Depending on the type of production, I will record sound directly from a mixer or provided microphone or music feed.  I bring my own microphones to capture ambient audience sound.

Post-production

All editing takes place after the shooting is complete.  I have seen setups where a "director" switches between cameras live on site.  And while it looks very impressive, they are simply trying to get through your job as quickly as possible. I could never imagine doing it like that.  I take my time selecting the best shots.  Even a skilled director would have difficulty matching what I do.

Technology allows me to pan, zoom and adjust color and exposure in post-production.  This is very time consuming, but the professional result speaks for itself.  I also add titles and credits, if the details are provided.

Once the performance is "in the can" I produce a professional DVD layout, complete with video stills and music from the production.  It will function exactly like any DVD you may rent or purchase.  Users will be able to play the entire performance, or choose from a scene selection menu.  They will also be able to move forwards and backwards through the performance using the chapter buttons.

I use only the highest quality DVD media.  I have achieved excellent results with Taiyo Yuden Premium DVD-R media.  I use production equipment that copies and verifies the contents of every single DVD for excellent quality control.  I guarantee the performance of every disc I produce, and in the extremely rare event that a disc malfunctions, I will replace it immediately at my expense.

I have sophisticated printing equipment that produces a very professional label on the printable surface of each disc.  I use hub-printable media, which allows for the maximum possible printable area.  I can use pre-designed artwork of your choice, or select a high-quality still image from the production itself.  I include the name of the production, and other important details on the label.

I prefer to package the DVDs in standard DVD cases similar to those you might see in a video store.  I can enclose a properly sized insert within the case if one is provided.  I also produce professional looking, full color cover inserts for the outside of the DVD case.  Title, date and other information is printed on the cover insert, and there is room for some description and even address and contact information for your organization.  Of course, I can also offer a lower cost paper sleeve option with a clear plastic window that reveals the printed DVD surface.  The choice is yours.

Order fulfillment

I take great pride in the quality of my work.  I am also extremely proud of how quickly I deliver the finished product.  Nobody wants to wait until Spring Break to watch The Nutcracker, or receive recital DVDs after school has started again.  I endeavor to turn around my projects in 30 days or less.  That's from the date of the production to the date our customers receive their DVDs in the mail.  I have an excellent track record of high quality, quick turnaround.

All DVDs are shipped First Class Mail, unless otherwise specified.  Large quantities of DVDs may be shipped Media Mail, which has a lower cost.  However, I am willing to ship Priority Mail for an additional cost.  Terms are negotiable.  Bubble mailers with professionally printed labels protect the contents, and all mailing addresses are verified using US Postal Service data.
